About OBCR

Organization for Building Community Resources (OBCR) is a non-governmental, non-profit and non-religious organization, which was founded in 2005 by a group of seven Cambodian volunteers. It was officially recognized, registered with and  approved by the Ministry of Interior,Kingdom of Cambodia in April 2006. The volunteers came from different backgrounds with various experiences in community development and social service.

OBCR is known as a capacity building, empowerment and service delivery organization by its stakeholders at provincial, district and commune levels. OBCR implements integrated rural community development programs with the poor to articulate their problems and needs in order to improve their socio-economic condition, education, livestock, micro-credit and enterprises development and empower them to use their rights to confront issues that affect their livelihoods and to build them self-confident and images on sustainable development.

OBCR works through local working groups, which operate at village level. These local working groups represent 28 villages, in 2 communes, and 2 districts of Samrong Tong (180 villages), and Angsnuol (100 villages) in Kampong Speu and Kandal Province. OBCR continues to support communities via 9 programmes focused on improving people’s livelihood:

  1. Vocational Training (Hair Cut, Motorbike and Hand Tractor Repair, Radio and TV Repair, and Sewing),
  2. Credit through Self Help Group, as saving movement, and micro-enterprises process
  3. Human Rights with Focus on Women Rights, Child Rights, and Rights to Food,
  4. Non-formal Education,
  5. Child Sponsorship
  6. Good Governance
  7. Agriculture, within Effectiveness Micro-organism approach
  8. Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Change Adaptation, and
  9. Primary Health Care

Presently, OBCR is a development partner of (International Cooperation Cambodia) ICC, which has started since July 2006. With technical and financial assistance from ICC, and MCC, the rights based and participatory approaches are more focused. The commitment from ICC for funding is up to December 2011 therefore, OBCR is currently seeking fund for the next five year projects (2012 – 2016). Also, KWFI is jointly funding with Aus AID, and NDI from USAID. Apart from KWFI and NDI, OBCR is also privately funded by Yacob Company (Indonesia) which provides a yearly basic fund.
